Final Piece

For my final piece I used what I thought was by best piece of pixel art and using Adobe Flash, made it into an animation. When I was thinking about what I could do to make this piece an animation I thought a good idea would be to make it change colour, this would give a cool effect when looped and would be relatively easy to do on Flash. To make the brain change colour I had to do all the colour editing on Photoshop to a Jpeg that was exactly the right size so that it would transfer onto Flash correctly, this took allot of trial and error but I eventually got to a point where all I had to do was slowly change the hue on Photoshop and drag the frame onto Flash, this was a relatively long process but I think the outcome is very successful.

Animation Experimentation - Pixel Demon

For this experimentation I worked on making an animation that would use the pixel style, this specific piece is a simple GIF that works off of the sprite style, usually in games that use sprites they use a simple animation like this for when the character is talking. I think as an experimentation for pixel animation it was quite successful.

Animation Experimentation - Planet

This is another experimentation with flash, with this piece I tried to make the first and last frame the same so that on a loop it would work as a proper GIF.

Animation Experiment - Ghost

This experimentation was with Adobe Flash, I wanted to get a feeling for the software with a simple style animation before I move onto the pixel animation. I think for a first use of Flash this was a relatively successful attempt.

Luchadore

This piece was another black and white experimentation that turned into a colour experimentation. I think this piece was successful as the contrast of deep black and geometric shapes against the loose and random colour is very effective.

Grim Reaper

This piece was an experimentation of black and white pixel art, I also tried to not think so much about keeping it perfect and do a more free piece. I think what is successful about this piece is the interesting use of lighting, only showing various parts of the character.

Pixel Demon

This piece was inspired by the sprite style, I already tried this style before on the mermaid piece, however I wanted to try and fit a character into an even smaller space of pixels. I think this piece was successful as it is clear what the character is and it has an element of character. I hope to animate this into a simple yet effective gif that reflects on old video games that use the same style.

Pixel Mermaids

A popular form of pixel art is to make characters into things called Sprites, these are smaller simplified versions of characters that are usually created in 50 x 50 pixel grids. I wanted to explore this style and the biggest difficulty I found was being able to make it look like something in such a small amount of space. However I feel that this piece was very successful as it looks like a mermaid and has achieved to style of the pixel sprites.

Ancient China

As an experiment with colour I tried a technique using only 3 tones of one colour and attempt to convey tone, colour and texture though a simplistic medium. I think this piece was very successful as it looks like a finished product.

Pixel Ghost

As an experiment with the pixel style I tried a basic black and white image. It's not too complicated but I think it's effective. I think I would like to work on colour for my next experimentation.
